Measure before you buy: getting equipment into your kitchen

Glass door bar fridges built in under a marble-topped bar, stocked with wine and drinks

A new commercial fridge or oven is only a good buy if it gets through the door and into its spot. Walking the route from the kerb to the kitchen with a tape measure, before you order, can save a lot of hassle on delivery day. Here's what to check.

Know what standard delivery includes

Our default delivery is a standard kerbside service to a commercial address. Items are unloaded at a loading bay or placed outside your premises using a tailgate truck, and any item over 22kg, such as a fridge, arrives on a pallet.

Standard delivery doesn't include moving items through doors, into the building, or up or down stairs or ramps. So before you order, plan how the unit will get from the kerb or loading bay to where it will live, and who will help move it. Our Delivery Terms & FAQ cover this in full.

Walk the path and measure every entry point

It's up to you to make sure there's adequate access to your premises and that the product will fit through every entry point and into its final spot. Measure each point along the way:

  • Doorways, including the front entry and any internal doors
  • Hallways and corridors
  • Corners and tight turns
  • Stairs and ramps
  • Lifts, both the door opening and the space inside
  • Gates and side access
  • The final spot where the unit will be installed

Measure at the narrowest point, such as between door stops or handrails. If anything has to be modified to get the unit in, that cost is yours, so it pays to know before you order.

Check the unit's size and its packed size

Check the width, depth and height on the product page, and the boxed (packed) dimensions too. Please don't assume a new unit will fit in the same spot as your old one, and don't rely on the product photo: the title, description and dimensions are what count.

Taking the packaging off to squeeze a unit through is risky. If the packaging has been removed and the product still can't fit through a doorway, the supplier may refuse to accept it as a return. If the spec sheet or manual lists clearances around the unit, include those when you measure the final spot.

Power, gas and water

Size is only one part of it. Before you buy, check that the power, the gas type and the size suit your site:

  • Power: does the unit need 10A, 15A or three-phase, and is that supply available where it will go?
  • Gas type: natural gas or LPG? Some gas products come as separate natural gas and LPG models, so order the one that matches your supply.
  • Size: width, depth and height, plus the packed size for the delivery path.
  • Water: if the product page lists a water connection or drain, make sure there's one in the right place.

Our Warranty & Service page asks that electrical and gas equipment is installed by a licensed technician, so it's worth talking to your electrician, gas fitter or plumber before you order. It's your responsibility to check the equipment is what you need, and our normal returns policy applies.

Need more than kerbside?

If you need in-store delivery, rubbish and pallet removal, or a larger item delivered to a residential address, tell us before you order. Email info@commercialequipmentonline.com.au with the details and we'll provide a customised premium delivery quote. Premium delivery is also how you get delivery on a specific day or at a set time.

  • Some suppliers, such as SKOPE, don't deliver to residential addresses because of truck size restrictions and narrow streets.
  • Rural addresses, islands, steep driveways and buildings that aren't at ground level may attract extra courier charges that aren't shown at checkout. We'll contact you if any extra costs apply.

If it doesn't fit

If a product doesn't fit because the measurements or site access weren't checked, it's treated as an incorrect product purchase or change-of-mind return, not a fault or a delivery failure. Change-of-mind returns and incorrect purchases carry a minimum 25% admin/restocking fee of the purchase price, with the exact fee set by the supplier. If a fridge doesn't fit your space and you'd like to exchange it for another size, we must be notified strictly within 7 days of receiving it. Our returns policy has the full details.

Not sure? Ask before you order

Our AI assistant can help you check power, gas type and size any time: just open the chat on our website. If your site has tricky access, or you'd like premium delivery quoted, email info@commercialequipmentonline.com.au before you order with the product you're looking at and your measurements. A little checking now makes delivery day much easier.
