Commercial Sandwich Press
A commercial sandwich press, also called a contact grill, panini press or press toaster, cooks food between a heated top plate and bottom plate at the same time. Flat plates give an even toast on sandwiches, wraps and focaccia. Ribbed plates leave grill marks on paninis, steaks, burgers and vegetables, and some models pair a ribbed top plate with a flat bottom plate, or split a double grill into one flat and one ribbed side.
Plate material varies by model. The Anvil single panini presses, the Apuro Bistro ribbed contact grill and the Benchstar Large Single Contact Grill use cast iron plates, while the Roband Grill Stations use die-cast aluminium plates, with smooth, ribbed top and non stick versions. A single contact grill suits a small cafe counter, while double contact grills, double panini presses and the 6 and 8 slice Roband Grill Stations toast more sandwiches at once.
There is also an Anvil jaffle maker in the range. For more options, browse our toasters and grills, conveyor and bread toasters and crepe and waffle makers, or see the full Roband range.

What are Commercial Sandwich Presses?
Commercial sandwich presses are kitchen appliances used to make sandwiches, typically in a commercial or professional food service setting. These presses usually consist of two heated plates that are hinged together, with a handle for pressing down on the sandwich. The plates are often made of cast iron or aluminum and are coated with a non-stick surface to prevent food from sticking.
Commercial sandwich presses come in different sizes and shapes to accommodate different sandwich sizes and types. Some models have adjustable temperature controls and timers to ensure that sandwiches are cooked to perfection every time. They can be used to make a variety of sandwiches, including paninis, grilled cheese, and hot sandwiches, and are commonly used in cafes, restaurants, and delis.
What to consider when purchasing a Commercial Sandwich Press?
When purchasing a commercial sandwich press, there are several factors to consider to ensure that you select the right one for your business needs. Here are some key considerations:
- Size: Consider the size of the press and whether it can accommodate the size and type of sandwiches you want to make. Also, think about how much counter space you have available for the press.
- Cooking Surface: Look for a press with a non-stick cooking surface to prevent sandwiches from sticking and to make cleaning easier. Some presses also have grooved or ridged plates for making paninis.
- Temperature Control: Consider a press with adjustable temperature control to ensure that sandwiches are cooked to the desired level of doneness. This is particularly important if you are making a variety of sandwiches or using different types of bread.
- Durability: Look for a press made of high-quality materials, such as stainless steel, that can withstand heavy use in a commercial kitchen. Consider the warranty offered by the manufacturer as well.
- Ease of Use: Look for a press that is easy to operate and clean, with intuitive controls, and removable plates for cleaning. Also, consider a press with a timer and audible alarm so your staff can't overcook or burn food.
- Price: Consider your budget and the cost of the press relative to its features and quality. Keep in mind that a higher-priced press may offer better durability and features, but may not be necessary depending on your specific needs.
By considering these factors, you can select a commercial sandwich press that will meet your business needs and provide reliable and efficient sandwich-making capabilities.

How to maintain a Commercial Sandwich Press?
Proper maintenance of a commercial sandwich press is recommended for ensuring its longevity and optimal performance. Here are some tips on how to maintain a commercial sandwich press:
- Clean the plates regularly: After each use, make sure to wipe down the plates with a soft, damp cloth or sponge. For tougher residue, use a non-abrasive cleaner and a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub the plates.
- Remove excess grease: Use a scraper or spatula to remove any excess grease or food particles from the plates before cleaning.
- Clean the exterior: Wipe down the exterior of the sandwich press with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the surface.
- Check the thermostat: Regularly check the thermostat to ensure that the temperature is accurate and adjust as necessary.
- Check the handle: Make sure that the handle is securely fastened and functioning properly. If it becomes loose or damaged, have it repaired or replaced as soon as possible.
- Lubricate moving parts if required: Apply a food-grade lubricant to any moving parts, such as the hinges, to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation.
- Our high-quality sandwich presses are designed to be as maintenance-free as possible but be sure to always refer to the manual for the manufacturer's recommendations.
By following these maintenance tips, you can ensure that your commercial sandwich press operates at optimal performance and lasts for many years.
